Important information - the Sunday Obligation

Pentecost 2022 statement from the Bishops' Conference

The Bishops' Conference of England and Wales prepared a Pentecost Statement marking the end of provisions regarding the Sunday Mass Obligation, made more than two years ago for Catholics unable to attend Mass in the conditions of the pandemic. The Bishops acknowledge the anxieties and nervousness still felt by some of the faithful, but with the greater feelings of relaxation in parishes at the present time, hopefully they may feel that this is an important moment for us all at the end of a long state of crisis. Looking forward therefore to the forthcoming feast of Pentecost, we now invite all Catholics, who have not yet done so, to return to attending Mass in person, so that nourished by our encounter with the Risan Lord Jesus, fed by His Body and Blood in Holy Communion, and supported by the presence of each other, we receive strength week by week, to serve the Lord and glorify Him with our lives.
