Parish celebrates the work of Sister Joseph Mary

Following many years of devoted service to the parish of St Joseph and St Mary, Sister Joseph Mary recently bid farewell to her active ministry, returning to her Order at Llantarnam Abbey.

To mark the occasion and to offer thanks for her work, both parish communities came together at St Joseph’s to attend a Mass of Thanksgiving followed by a reception in the Church Hall.

During the Mass, which was also attended by other Sisters from Llantarnam, Canon Joseph Boardman gave a sermon reflecting on Sister’s devote work to the parish. This also highlighted the history of service to the Archdiocese of Cardiff by the Sisters of St Joseph Annecy, with prayers for the wellbeing of all who have given their lives to this important ministry. Canon also reflected on the particular contribution made by Sister Joseph Mary towards the wellbeing of the sick of the parish.

Following this very well attended Mass, Sister retired to the hall and chatted over the buffet with many of those who had come to wish her well. During the reception Paul Gallone, Chairman of the Parish Advisory Council, echoed the sentiments of all parishioners past and present when he thanked Sister for her years of service and dedication to the parish. He also presented her with the proceeds of a special collection intended for her to purchase a gift of her choice, along with a plant for her to place in the gardens of the Abbey. Sister thanked the parish and advised that she intended to use the gift to purchase and iPad.
